چکیده

The humic substances including humic acid (HA) and fulvic acids (FAs) extracted from a refuse compost were investigated the average conditional concentration quotients of the complexes formed by the reaction of heavy metals with the humic substances. The characteristics of these humic substances were previously investigated by a related study. The concentrations of the free ions of Pb, Cu, Cd, and Zn in the reaction systems of heavy metal-HA suspensions and heavy metal-fulvic acid (FA) solutions were measured by anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV). The sequence of the average conditional concentration quotients of the complexes formed from the reaction of humic substances with heavy metals was FA (MW<1000) > FA (MW>1000) > HA (MW>1000). The sequence of reacting heavy metals with humic substances was Pb > Cu > Cd > Zn. Reactions of refuse compost-derived humic substances with heavy metals thus affect the mobility and biotoxicities of heavy metals in soil and the associated environments.

Reactions of compost-derived humic substances with lead, copper, cadmium, and zinc.

Thermodynamic stability constants of the formation of complexes from the reactions of humic substances with various metals are usually used as parameters to judge the reactivities of both humic substances and metals. However, in calculating the thermodynamic stability constants, complicated processes for the acquisition of activities of components in reactions are absolutely inevitable. In this...

Effect of compost and humic acid in mobility and concentration of cadmium and chromium in soil and plant

The effect of compost and humic acid in mobility and concentration of cadmium and chromium in contaminated soil were investigated. Experiment was carried out with three levels of soil cadmium and chromium and two organic matters (compost and humic acid). The study was performed in a randomized complete block design with 3 replicates. Results indicated that application of organic substances enha...

Evaluation of Cadmium, Lead and Zinc Content of Compost Produced in Babol Composting Plant

Background and purpose: The most important parameter is heavy metal contents in compost production technology. These heavy metals residue from substances like soap, detergents, cosmetics, packaging, leather and butteries are existed in municipal solid waste. The heavy metals can produce toxin for animal, human and plant. The aim of this research was study of produced compost quality based on he...

Specific parameterization of WHAM improves the prediction of copper competitive binding on plant roots

The Windermere humic aqueous model (WHAM) initially designed to model metal cation binding on humic substances were applied in predictive ecotoxicology [2]. For terrestrial higher plants, a recent investigation showed that WHAM was able to satisfactorily model cadmium (Cd), nickel (Ni), and zinc (Zn) concentrations in pea (Pisum sativum L.) roots, but that it overestimated the Cu concentration ...

Simultaneous determination of lead, cadmium, copper and zinc in Infant formula by anodic stripping voltammetry

Determination of trace elements in food is of great importance, as some of them have nutritional significance, whilst others are toxic. Long-term exposure to low levels of toxic metals could be important, especially in relation to children. Differential Pulse Anodic Stripping Voltammetry (DPASV) is applied to simultaneous determination of lead, cadmium, copper and zinc in dry ash infant formula...
